Harold is an entrepreneur and innovator who has built TomTom in to one of Europe’s most successful global technology companies. Under his leadership, TomTom has become synonymous with digital navigation which it has democratised. Today, more than one billion people use TomTom technology every day.
With his focus on innovation, TomTom became a globally recognised brand with the launch of the first TomTom GO in 2004 – a completely new category in consumer electronics. He then steered the company through extremely rapid growth as the device became an instant hit.
TomTom is the only European consumer electronics company to have created a global brand, within the last 15 years, in navigation, traffic and mapping products, as well as state-of-the-art fleet management solutions and industry leading location based products. The drive to innovate has subsequently led to TomTom’s entry into GPS sport watches and more recently the launch of the TomTom Bandit, an innovative action camera. As leaders in technology innovation, TomTom is also playing a major role for the future of smart cities, in making Highly Automated Driving and Autonomous Driving a reality by creating cutting-edge technology for mapping systems in applications for self-driving vehicles.
He is chair of the Comité Ondernemerschap en Financiering, advising the Minister of Finance. Harold holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Amsterdam.
